Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position is for Mexico Beach and the surrounding area.

  • Performs administrative duties in support of the office staff, boards, and commissions.
  • Coordinates permit activities with other personnel.
  • Processes all administrative documentation associated with the issuance of building permits. This includes checking applications for completeness and conformance to appropriate codes and land development regulations.
  • Completes periodic reporting requirements in accordance with established schedules.
  • Maintains all files related to permitting functions.
  • Maintains and processes permits and archives permits.
  • Provides customer service on the phone and at the counter.
  • Assists building inspectors and Chief Building Officials with secretarial duties.
  • Processes licensing, licensing renewals, insurance, and bonding for the appropriate trades.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is a must.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities continued

  • Knowledge of general clerical and office procedures and practices.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products is a MUST (i.e. Excel, Word)
  • Knowledge of construction terminology preferred.
  • Superior typing and computer skills.
  • At least one year experience in customer service or a related field.
  • Material and Equipment Directly Used: Use a varietyof office equipment, including a computer, printer, copier, scanner, 10-key, telephone, and other standard office materials and equipment. There may be times when using a personal vehicle may be required.
  • Working Environment/Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office setting with a controlled environment. There are periods of prolonged standing when assisting the public. Work involves sitting, bending, and reaching. One rarely needs to lift more than 10 to 20 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. The appropriate supervisor shall request and approve vacation and other leave scheduling based on business needs.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
