The individuals selected to serve on the Founding Board of Directors will have a unique opportunity to help establish the Foundation from the very beginning. Together, this inaugural Board will help develop the Foundation's vision, establish its governance, build meaningful programs, foster community partnerships, and create a strong foundation for long-term success.
Serving as a Founding Director is both an honor and a significant responsibility. In addition to fulfilling the fiduciary duties of nonprofit board service, the Founding Board will play a vital role in shaping the Foundation's future and helping establish an organization that will serve the building industry and our community for generations to come.

Foundation Purpose & Organizational Vision
The Bay Building Industries Foundation is being established exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. Its intended focus includes supporting workforce development initiatives, providing scholarships to students pursuing careers in the building trades, promoting construction-related education, and increasing public awareness of careers in the residential and commercial building industry.
One of the Founding Board's first responsibilities will be developing and adopting the Foundation's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and long-term strategic direction.
Founding Board Responsibilities & Expectations
Serving on the Founding Board of Directors is an active leadership role requiring professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to establishing a strong and sustainable charitable organization.
In addition to fulfilling the fiduciary responsibilities of nonprofit board service, Founding Directors will help shape the Foundation's identity, establish its priorities, and build the framework that will guide its future.
Founding Board members are expected to:
- Attend Foundation Board meetings and actively participate throughout the year.
- Prepare for meetings by reviewing materials in advance and contributing to thoughtful discussion.
- Help establish the Foundation's Mission, Vision, Core Values, strategic priorities, governance, and organizational culture.
- Support the Foundation's charitable purpose through leadership, stewardship, and community engagement.
- Promote workforce development, scholarships, construction education, and public awareness of careers in the building industry.
- Assist with fundraising initiatives, donor stewardship, and resource development.
- Build relationships with donors, educational institutions, community organizations, volunteers, and industry partners.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Foundation by representing its purpose with professionalism and integrity.
- Exercise sound judgment and fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of a nonprofit director.
- Uphold the Foundation's Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and adopted policies.
- Respect the confidentiality of Board discussions and sensitive information when appropriate.
- Support decisions of the Board once they have been made.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of Foundation assets and financial resources.
- Help identify and encourage future Foundation leaders, volunteers, and supporters.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Directors to establish a strong and sustainable organization for future generations.
Leadership Commitment

Founding Directors should be prepared to contribute their experience, ideas, leadership, and time as the Foundation develops its governance, programs, partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and long-term strategic direction.
Time Commitment
While schedules will vary throughout the year, Founding Board members should anticipate participating in:
- Foundation Board meetings
- Strategic planning and organizational development
- Scholarship and workforce development initiatives
- Foundation fundraising events and activities
- Community outreach and partnership development
- Additional leadership meetings and special projects as needed
Founding Board members are encouraged to serve as ambassadors for the Foundation by actively engaging with donors, volunteers, educational partners, industry professionals, and the community.
